NSW Premier's Literary Awards: The Lost Dog gets (some of) its deserts
Michelle de Kretser's The Lost Dog has won the Christina Stead Prize for Fiction and the Book of the Year Award in the 2008 NSW Premier's Literary Awards. I'm hoping this will be just the first of many. Previous raves about this book are here and here. Thanks to Ampersand Duck for this news.

Deserts? I think that says more about the Aust lit scene than you mean...
Hee hee, I was wondering when/if somebody would mention this, but it really is "deserts", one S but with with emphasis on the second syllable (as distinct from the sandy ones), derived from 'deserve', meaning 'that which she justly deserves' and nothing to do with sticky toffee pudding. I promise.
Wow, I never knew that!
Actually, almost a shame to kill that one in my head, because desserts are such a spiffing reward for good work.
